Local fashion aficionados will recognize Anna Chambers-Goldberg from her fall 2015 Envision appearance and her locally crafted, ready to wear brand, ACG, which is sold at various boutiques throughout the Twin Cites and online. This season, the designer takes a departure from her previous mode of work. Deciding to separate her runway collection from her ready to wear line, the new garments to be debuted on September 24 are a little less ACG and a little more Anna Chambers-Goldberg.
Anna studied printmaking at Macalester. Since graduating, she has interned with various printmakers and at Minnesota Center for Book Arts. From the beginning, her background in and love for art have actively informed her apparel design. As a balanced mix of fashion, art, and business, Anna’s modern and handmade artist-run clothing line is the perfect fit for the designer.
In creating her runway collection for Envision’s 20th season, Anna looked to the work of abstract painter, Cy Twombly, known for his loose cursive-like mark making and his large scale paintings. The color scheme, dye work, and even construction methods seen within Anna’s new garments were carefully chosen to express the painterly aspect of the clothing. Fans can expect to see pieces that are rich with layering in the form of more abstract and sculptural silhouettes. You’ll have to see it for yourself, but there’s definitely something to be deciphered in this new collection, too.
