At Envision’s prestigious 10th anniversary, Ellie Hottinger, designer behind Emah the Label, debuts a collection that reflects on personal experience while taking great strides in the development of her brand’s aesthetic.
Ellie Hottinger calls the pieces coming out of her brand, Emah The Label, a continuation of her own personal style. The brand began after Hottinger left school at the University of Minnesota and began her career in apparel design. Like many creatives working professionally, she missed the inventive control in designing her own work, and Emah the Label was born was born out of this drive for expression. A continuation of the designer’s own personal style that focuses on elevated streetwear ready separates, Emah The Label is available at local Twin Cities pop up shops, through designer collaborations, and online at emahthelabel.com.
The upcoming fall collection from Emah The Label works to further bridge the gap that Hottinger identifies between fashion and street style. A personal period of transition in Hottinger’s life coincides with the collection’s controlled color scheme, incredible movement on the runway, and meticulously chosen materials. In lightweight crepes, pontes, and double weaves accented by tweeds, tassels, and textured ribbons, the materials reflect the way Hottinger thinks about change. From afar, the collection is subtly tied together with detail work that explores how one picks some things up and drops others along the way in a time of transition. The movement of these fabrics, constructed in circular and geometric designs, nods to the ebbs and flows of personal evolution and the tides of change.
