Xee Vang combines simple inspiration with intricate construction in her new collection to be presented at Envision’s unparalleled 20th season.
As a graduate of St. Catherine University with a B.A. in Apparel Design and minor in Studio Art, Xee always knew she wanted to end up in art, but her path to becoming a fashion designer is unique. While originally working in fashion photography, the aesthetics of the garments themselves began to take over for Xee. What started as the occasional DIY sewing project became the designer’s new predominant form of expression.
Xee began creating clothes inspired by her Hmong culture and pursued a degree in apparel design. Also informed by daily life and current trends, her work has typically incorporated bold color into each of her vibrant collections, the first of which was shown in 2010. She has since received the Cultural Community Partnership Grant from the Minnesota State Art Board and shown her innovative clothing at various shows within the Twin Cities.
At Envision’s special 10th anniversary, fans of Xee Vang’s work can expect to see softer tones that are directly inspired by the fall season as well as a new focus on details referencing couture embellishment. Featuring singularly applied and intricately beaded designs, the autumnal tones and seasonal styles of Xee’s new collection will deliver the perfect fall vibe. With so many hours of minute detailing going into each garment, it’s no wonder the designer can’t quite pick which look will be her favorite to watch on the runway.
You can catch Xee Vang’s showstopping collection at Envision’s 10th Anniversary show on September 24. Get your tickets before they’re gone! www.envisionmpls.com
