In learning to sew from her grandmother and creating her own prom dress, Joeleen Torvick discovered her passion. Once she hit school, the designer made the jump from the world of bridal to the realm of ready to wear and has since been working to produce wearable garments for the modern woman. Torvick currently works with Lyn-Lake retail cooperative, Showroom, and her designs can also be purchased at New Ulm’s rising star boutique, Semblance.
Like any great collection, Joeleen Torvick’s upcoming fall collection started with a spark of inspiration mingled with big aspirations. It all began with a divine chunky sweater knit sporting a large chevron print, and the pattern of this chevron propelled the new season into more angular form. Much of the work coming from her line in the past has utilized rounder silhouettes, ensuring the new direction was not without its challenges. Putting herself to the task of making her garments flattering for every figure, Torvick has struck a balance between bringing wearable designs of interest and intrigue with the practicality of working in ready to wear production. The new collection carries enhanced layers and textures as well as an elegant color palette of grey, black and bordeaux with a playful pop of aquamarine.
Envision looks back on 20 seasons of supporting local designers, and Joeleen Torvick looks forward to a prosperous future in fashion. Don’t miss the debut of her new collection on September 24 at Envision’s 10 year anniversary show.
